the "effectiveness" of the GT200 and similar devices depends
on the objectives of the people involved...

for the purchasers of the equipment it is the kickback that is "effective"

for the military commanders and police that want to arrest someone the
device is "effective", ideal because it can be used to invent evidence

I guess thats what the phrase "this device in use is better than having
none since it helps to boost their psychological strength and
confidence" means

but for people on the ground and others that actually want to reduce
crime and terror, resolve issues and increase the credibility of state
agencies the device is worse than useless, it makes things worse....

why cant the problems in the south be solved? because the military in
charge of the solution want to maintain the problems for their own
benefit, using the GT200 and whatever else they can find to spread fear,
terror and maintain control of the population

To each his own little black magic.

So many hands tied here, so many loyalties that have to be upheld ... There's actually no difference between a bomb detecting soldier holding a GT200 or a Big Mac in his hands, but appearance, saving face, the old ruinous values ...

outrageous indeed, but unsurprising. With Anupong's hand as well as several others up his back, Abhisit is absolutely no position to confront the army, for fear of losing his job. What a complete yoyo Abhisit is, I have no idea what he sees in the mirror each morning but if he has any integrity at all (which is in serious doubt), he must have a real battle not slashing his wrists.

Abhisit confronting the army would be like the army confronting itself really... why on earth doesn't someone have the balls to tell the army to get on and learn how to do it's real job, and let Thai politicians start to learn how to do theirs?
